Oat
Oat is a grain crop grown for its abundant starchy seeds. This grain, which is mostlyused in animal feeding, is also used in human nutrition. There are many varieties ofoats with white, black, yellow, red, gray seeds, short or long stems. Oat varietieshave been developed according to different climate and soil conditions. Oat is a grainfeed generally consumed with hulls. The factor affecting the nutritional value of oatsis the hull ratio of the grain. Husk constitutes approximately 20-30% of all grain. It isone of the highest fat content among grains. It has a positive effect on milk yield andmilk fat ratio in cows. When given to ruminants other than sheep and goats, it shouldbe broken or crushed roughly. Otherwise, most of the oats eaten are excreted withfeces without being digested. Oats are not a suitable grain source for poultry.
