Molasses

In factories producing sugar from sugar cane and sugar beet, the dark brown, viscous syrup that remains at the end of the process to turn sucrose into crystal form is called molasses. Molasses is in syrup color and consistency and shows fluidity according to its dry matter and the amount of sugar in it. It contains up to 50% sugar amount. Molasses is the basic raw material in the feed, yeast and alcohol industries. Some use is also available in coal pelleting and citric acid fermentation. The main reasons for its use in the feed sector are its high energy content, its pellet binding property, its prevention of pollination in feed and its delicious. It is rich in potassium, niacin and pantothenic acid. Overuse in rations can cause diarrhea.​
